Wildlife Encounters & Safety

Taking place on November 5 at 7 pm, Hike Nova Scotia’s Wildlife Encounters & Safety webinar is geared for new and experienced hikers. This one-hour session will cover an introduction to wildlife of Nova Scotia and understanding their characteristics and typical behavior. The presentation will include how to respect wildlife while enjoying the outdoors and what to do if you encounter wildlife on the trails. Sample species mounts will be available for show along with potential items to consider hiking with.

Note: This is a live webinar only, there will be no recording available afterward.

Presenter
The presenter is Amelia Kennedy, a Natural Resources Educator with the Department of Lands and Forestry. Amelia has spent the last 11 years working at the Natural Resource Education Centre in Middle Musquodoboit, sharing her love of the outdoors and nature with students and participants of all ages. Amelia loves spending time exploring nature with her family and their new puppy as well as getting out on the river fly fishing and enjoying the peace and quiet.
The webinar is offered in partnership with the NS Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage and the NS Department of Lands and Forestry.

Cost
It is free for Hike NS paid members and $20 for non-members (who then receive a free one-year individual membership). There is a limited number of spots available as we want to give attendees a chance to ask questions and this is better facilitated with smaller groups.

Note: We recommend participating in the webinar electronically through your computer or device. If you experience audio or video issues, you can call-in in addition to or instead of electronically. Please note that, if you call-in, long distance charges will apply according to whatever arrangement you have with your telecommunications provider.
