Leave No Trace Webinar

Hike Nova Scotia’s Leave No Trace webinar on October 6 at 7 pm is geared for new and experienced hikers interested in learning more about responsible use of our natural areas and techniques to use to protect our environment and the hiking “experience” for each other. This one-hour session covers an introduction and in-depth look at the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace as they apply to hiking and related activities. It includes a brief history of the Leave No Trace movement and an exploration of “ethics vs rules” in the context of human interaction with natural areas.

Note: This is a live webinar only; there will be no recording available afterward.

Presenter
The presenter is Jody Conrad, a founding member of Leave No Trace Canada and the first certified Leave No Trace Master Educator in the country. Jody has been an outdoor educator for over 20 years and is a former coordinator and instructor for the Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development Program’s “Wilderness Ethics” module. Jody works with Chester Recreation and Parks Services, is an “amateur naturalist,” and enjoys exploring the woods and wilds of Chester Grant, NS.

The webinar is offered in partnership with the Municipality of the District of Chester and the NS Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.

Cost
Registration is required at least 24 hours in advance. It is free for Hike NS paid members and $20 for non-members (who then receive a free one-year individual membership). There is a limited number of spots available as we want to give attendees a chance to ask questions and this is better facilitated with smaller groups.

Note: We recommend participating in the webinar electronically through your computer or device. If you experience audio or video issues, you can call-in in addition to or instead of electronically. Please note that, if you call-in, long distance charges will apply according to whatever arrangement you have with your telecommunications provider.
