Leave No Trace (outdoor ethics education)

It's important to practice low-impact hiking, walking and snowshoeing to conserve and protect our natural environment. Leave No Trace Canada is a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and inspiring responsible outdoor recreation through education, research and partnerships. It builds awareness, appreciation and respect for our wildlands. Hike Nova Scotia is a member of Leave No Trace Canada and endorses its Principles:

1.    Plan Ahead and Prepare
2.    Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
3.    Dispose of Waste Properly
4.    Leave What You Find
5.    Minimize Campfire Impacts
6.    Respect Wildlife
7.    Be Considerate of Other Visitors

Hike Nova Scotia has a list of Leave No Trace Instructors in the province. If you would like a workshop, please contact Hike NS and we'll help arrange for an instructor. The cost of the workshop must be covered by the organization hosting the workshop. Costs vary depending on workshop location, number of people and workshop length.
